City Calm Down – Joan, I’m Disappearing

Recently, I attended the Soundkilda Music Video Competition as part of the St Kilda Film Festival.

I was lucky enough to spend an evening immersed in amazing Australian music, accompanied by beautifully created videos for artists such as Client Liaison, Flight Facilities, Peking Duk and Montaigne.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t emotionally affected in one way or another by each video, whether it was funny, strange, confusing or just genuinely inspiring.

However, the clip that had the most lasting effect on me was City Calm Down’s ‘Joan, I’m Disappearing’.

Directed by Riley Blakeway, the video so perfectly complements the intensity and the emotional impact of the track. It explores themes of love, loss, strength, and family relationships, and does an excellent job of captivating and bringing you into a whole new world for 4 minutes and 20 seconds.

See what you think. I’ve thought about it every day since I first saw it.
